Braves catcher Brian McCann tags out Mark Teixeira, who should be his teammate next season.
The Yankees’ deal with free-agent catcher Brian McCann is done, pending a physical, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations.
Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported that McCann was near a five-year deal with the Yankees worth more than $ 80 million. The Dallas Morning News first reported the advanced state of talks between the Yankees and McCann.
McCann has been one of the Yankees’ primary targets this winter and his agent, BB Abbott, told the Daily News earlier this month that the Bronx was “certainly a place that is on Brian’s radar. How could it not be? You’ve got an historic franchise and a great park, knowledgeable fans and a chance to win, which is what every guy plays the game for.
“From Brian’s standpoint, it would be an attractive place to listen to.”
