‘Twerking,’ ‘selfie’ among Mich. college’s banished words

Miley Cyrus assumes the position to twerk during the MTV Europe Music Awards, held in Amsterdam in November. Good thing the Lake Superior University ban is on the use of the word and not on demonstrating it.

At the risk of running afoul of the word police, Miley Cyrus better not take a selfie of herself twerking.

In its annual list of banned words, a Michigan college has put “selfie” — smartphone photos people take of themselves and post on social media — at the top.

Coming in second on the Lake Superior University 2014 List of Banished Words was “twerking,” the dirty dance moves made infamous by Miley Cyrus in August at the MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn.

Among the other 13 unwanted words: “T-bone” for car crashes and “hashtag.”
