Ruperto Vanderpool is gearing up to take the stage at Lehman Center’s ‘Festival Del Humor’ on Nov. 30.
Ruperto Vanderpool works hard to make people laugh.
The Bronx native best known for his appearances on HBO’s “Bad Boys of Comedy,” and roles in films like “The Cookout” with Queen Latifah and “El Vacilón” with radio deejay Luis Jimenez, likes to frequent comedy clubs around the city to test out new jokes.
“I call it ‘The Gym,’ because you’re working out and trying out material,” says Vanderpool, the son of Dominican parents.
“Just like (Floyd) Mayweather gets ready for a fight, that’s how I train and prepare.”
Vanderpool is feeling prepared to take on a larger audience. He’s on the Paul Rodriguez undercard at the “Festival Del Humor” at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts on Nov. 30, along with comedians Cuquín Victoria, Jochy Santos and Anthony Rios.
“I’ve traveled throughout the country and parts of the world to do standup, but there’s nothing like coming home,” says Vanderpool.
