Jake Gyllenhaal cut his hand while filming the movie ‘Nightcrawler,’ but has since returned to work.
Ouch! Jake Gyllenhaal‘s passionate acting landed him a trip to the emergency room.
The 32-year-old star, who plays a crime journalist in “Nightcrawler,” was filming an emotional scene for the thriller on Wednesday when he severely sliced open his hand after punching a mirror.

“Jake was indeed filming ‘Nightcrawler’ when, during the shooting of an intense scene, his character purposefully banged his hand into the mirror,” a rep for Gyllenhaal told the Daily News.

“Unfortunately the mirror broke and Jake’s hand was badly cut up. He got numerous stitches at the ER and was released. He already returned to set for work.”

“He really gets into the role and that’s what the scene called for,” a source on set added to The News. “He’s so dedicated.”
Gyllenhaal’s extreme loyalty is also apparent in his recent 20-pound weight loss for his character in the flick.

“I knew that (Lou) was literally and figuratively hungry,” Gyllenhaal told Us Weekly about his ultra-slim appearance at the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards in October.
“(So) I was always a bit hungry.”
“I just love this movie,” he added to the mag about “Nightcrawler” when asked how he managed to drop the weight.
“That’s how I did it. There really was no technique.”
