It was the Saints’ offense that was breaking records against the Cowboys, but the leader of the defense was the one celebrating in the Garden District.

Rob Ryan toasted New Orleans’ victory over his old team Sunday night, buying drinks for revelers at Ms. Mae’s after the Saints’ 49-17 win.

“#RobRyan just bought me a drink at #MsMaes!,” Mary B. Sonnier tweeted along with a photo of Ryan, surrounded by fans (including one in a Cowboys hat) at the legendary dive in the Crescent City’s Uptown neighborhood.

Ryan’s defense held the Cowboys to just 193 yards of total offense, the Saints’ best effort in seven years. On top of that, the offense picked apart the defense Ryan used to coach — he was fired last offseason — piling up an NFL-record 40 first downs and becoming the first team since 1960 to have at least 380 passing yards and 230 rushing yards in the same game.

“We thought it was best for us to go in the direction that we are, and it doesn’t look good right now,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after Ryan’s replacement, Monte Kiffin, saw the Saints pile up 625 yards of offense against Dallas.

According to the NOLA Defender, an online publication, Ryan is a semi-regular at Ms. Mea’s. After enjoying some post-game libations there following the Saints’ Week 1 win over the Falcons, Rex Ryan’s twin brother slapped $ 100 on the bar for everyone else to keep the party going.

“In here, that’s like a fortune,” bartender Jason Matherne told the paper.
