Alex Calderwood, 47, died Thursday. No details were given on Calderwood’s cause of death.
The pioneering hotelier launched the Ace Hotel Group in Seattle in 1999.
The original 28-room property — featuring uber-cool rooms stocked with reclaimed furniture, street art and turntables — became the model for a rapidly expanding chain known for its reasonable price.
