Who are these guys? Megatron can’t name Giants DBs

If Calvin Johnson has been doing his homework on the Giants cornerbacks, it certainly didn’t show on his Wednesday afternoon conference call.

The Detroit Lions’ top receiver struggled to even name a Giants corner. He referred to Prince Amukamara as “Amenyiora,” and he couldn’t even pick out Trumaine McBride.

“And No. 38,” he said, referencing McBride. “What’s his name? … He’s gonna be on the outside.”

Antrel Role isn’t bothered by Calvin Johnson’s lack of knowledge of the Giants’ secondary and heaps praise on the seven-year vet, calling him one of the NFL’s best.

Johnson did admit that he was bad with names. But he wasn’t done dissing the Giants, either.

“They’re gonna present some challenges for us,” he added. “But I think we can get some openings there in the secondary and get the ball moving.”

These were all slights toward the Giants secondary, but nobody on Big Blue seemed to pay attention. Sure, a season ago, Bengals wideout A.J. Green incited Antrel Rolle simply by saying the ‘D’ had “holes.”

But this year, Johnson’s disrespect didn’t frustrate Big Blue. The Giants corners still spoke of him with reverence.

“Definitely one of the best, if not the best, receiver in the league,” Rolle said. “I think he’s earned the right to be called that.”

McBride said he didn’t expect Johnson to know his name.

“I mean, last year I was out of the league,” said the journeyman who replaced Corey Webster.

Amukamara was quick to say Johnson’s nickname, “Megatron,” and couldn’t blame Johnson for not knowing how to pronounce his last name.
