David Peterson dreams of flying in space, so he created a film to simulate the view.

The filmmaker from Brisbane, Australia, made “The World Outside My Window — Time-Lapses of Earth from the ISS,” which uses pictures from NASA to create the image of flying through space at the International Space Station.

The 35-year-old told the Daily News via email he used footage from Expeditions 29, 30 and 31 at the ISS to give people a new understanding of space and the people aboard the station.

“My hope is that we can see our planet and ourselves from a different perspective, one where we are just a small part of a greater whole, and that if we work together, we can reach even further,” he said.

Peterson originally started the film in September 2012, but took a hiatus and finally completed it in October. He took weeks searching and downloading images from NASA’s Earth Observatory website to find the right sequences and create the right feeling of traveling in space.

Peterson had been working on the project since last year, taking a short break, but eventually returning to finding images like the one above from NASA.

“I love space. I would love to get there one day and see these views myself,” he said. “Until then, I have to live vicariously through these kinds of awe-inspiring images.”

The film shows several different views from the ISS looking out onto Earth and hovering over different parts of the planet. The images are strikingly clear and it gives the viewer the feeling of the space station being very close to Earth.

“The station itself is a great symbol of what we can do if we put our minds to it,” he said.

The station is used by several countries as a place to gather information and conduct experiments in space. Officials are currently investigating a malfunctioning cooling loop on the station — one of two that were installed in 2010. Astronauts onboard are planning a series of possible spacewalks soon to fix the problem.
