Peter O’Toole, the legendary actor who starred in the classic film “Lawrence of Arabia,” has died at age 81.

The charismatic, Irish-born star of the stage and silver screen got his big break when he won the role of British adventurer T.E. Lawrence in the 1962 flick.

It earned him one of his eight Oscar nominations, and O’Toole went on to shine films such as “Beckett,” “The Lion in Winter” and “Goodbye, Mr. Chips.”

He began his career in British theater, sparkling in the critically-acclaimed 1955 production of “Hamlet.”

O’Toole’s last Oscar nomination was for “Venus” in 2006. He never won the award outright but accepted an honorary Oscar in 2003.

The actor was known for boozing and long suffered from ill health.

His agent, Steve Kenis, said O’Toole passed away Saturday at a hospital. Kenis made the announcement in an email Sunday.

The family was overwhelmed “by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time. … In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished,” O’Toole’s daughter Kate said in the statement.
