A family emergency forces Rysheed Jordan to miss Saturday’s game against Youngstown State.

St. John’s freshman Rysheed Jordan will not play in Saturday’s home game against Youngstown State. The 6-4 freshman is with his mother, Amina Robinson, who has been hospitalized in Philadelphia for the past two days.

Jordan has played in nine games – starting six – and is averaging 6.3 points and 3.0 assists. He has played his best basketball of late, averaging 10.7 points and 4.0 assists in the last three games.

“Our thoughts are with Rysheed and his mother amina as she continues to persevere through health challenges,” coach Steve Lavin said.

A school statement announcing Jordan’s absence does not say when he will return, only that he will miss the Saturday game.

The Red Storm also announced that 6-4 sophomore guard Felix Balamou would begin playing, a change of direction from when it looked like he would be redshirted. It was unclear whether activating Balamou was related to Jordan’s absence or just coincidental. He was recovering from an off-season ankle sprain.
