Planning on doing a post-holiday juice cleanse to counter days of indulgence? One celebrity trainer doesn’t think that’s a good idea.

Tracy Anderson, who is perhaps best known for transforming the bodies of svelte stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, blasted the weight-loss fad diet in a recent interview with Refinery29.

“Juice detoxes are the worst thing that ever became commercialized. They’re horrific for people’s health. They crash people’s metabolic rate,” she said.

In fact, Anderson believes they are no better for you than a certain yellow sponge cake.

“If you’re going to drink a non-organic green juice, you might as well eat a Twinkie,” she said. “Or a half a Twinkie, at least. There’s like 80 calories in it, there’s a bunch of chemicals in it, what’s the point? The only benefit (to juice) is that it’s pre-digested and the Twinkie’s not.”

Anderson also mentioned that the FDA requires that juice cleanses be pasteurized. This means “you’re drinking, basically, water that’s going to give you Type 2 diabetes, potentially.”

Friend Paltrow has also voiced her distaste for all-liquid detoxes.

“I’ve done juice cleanses in the past, and in my 20s I did the Master Cleanse, which left me hallucinating after 10 days,” she wrote in July in a column The Telegraph.
