Beyonce posts a video on Instagram promoting her surprise album, ‘Beyonce,’ released at midnight Friday. The album was a surprise and spontaneously caused a major spike on Twitter.
Just how fierce was the buzz surrounding Beyonce’s surprise album release?
Fiercer than a tornado full of Great White sharks, apparently.

Mrs. Carter’s “BEYONCE” sparked more reaction on Twitter than the record-setting social media phenomenon surrounding Syfy’s “Sharknado” in July.
Beyonce fans generated more than 1.2 million Tweets in just 12 hours, including a “Tweets per minute” (TPM) spike of 5,300 — roughly 300 more than “Sharknado” notched during its peak halfway through its original telecast.

Among those 1.2 million tweets were many of Beyonce’s peers, who bowed down before the queen.
“Don’t talk to me today unless it’s about @Beyonce THANX,” Katy Perry Tweeted.

“X-Factor” judge Demi Lovato was “literally FUH-REAKING OUT” over the release.
“I CANT HANDLE THIS MUCH FIERCENESS…. #NOJOKE #DYING,” she told her 20.3 million Twitter followers.
As well as “BEYONCE” did on social media, it did even better in the most important metric – album sales. It was the most downloaded album Friday on iTunes, the only place fans could buy a copy.
