Kerry predicts Iran nuclear deal within months

Secretary of State John Kerry is confident that there will be a deal on Iran’s nuclear program in the coming months.

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Kerry predicted a deal on Iran’s nuclear program within months Monday as the secretive state agreed to new inspections of key production sites.

Last week, Kerry met in Geneva with Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif for 10 hours, elevating hopes of a deal that did not materialize.

But Iran on Monday signed its first inspection deal since 2007 with the UN’s nuclear watchdog agency, which could open up one of the country’s uranium mines and a key reactor within three months.

Reports of progress in the talks — attributed to anonymous diplomats — came as Kerry tried to reassure Israel and America’s Arab allies.
