Gordon Ramsay readies his bike before the start of the Ironman World Championship Triathlon on Oct. 12 in Kona, Hawaii.
Star chef Gordon Ramsay traded fatty foods for green shakes and farmer’s market veggies, dropping about 30 pounds while training for his first-ever triathlon.
“I look like a bloody piece of asparagus!” Ramsay says of his new physique in the November issue of Triathlete magazine.

Gordon Ramsay attends Soccer Aid 2012 in aid of Unicef at Old Trafford on May 27, 2012, in Manchester, England. The chef and former soccer pro has since slimmed down, thanks to grueling triathlon training and a strict diet.
The 6-foot-2 “Hell’s Kitchen” host, who says he won’t let his weight drop below 190 pounds, slimmed down by ditching dairy, eating protein-packed meals like fish and chicken, and going on 70-mile bike rides and 25-mile runs.
Ramsay, who splits his time between London and Los Angeles, finished last week’s Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii — arguably the world’s hardest race — in just over 14 hours. The triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride and then a 26.2-mile run.

Before the race, the foul-mouthed chef and TV host was waking up at 4:30 a.m. to train before filming at 8 a.m.
“My biggest training motivator is time to myself,” he explained in a behind-the-scenes video at the Triathlete shoot. “I see it as a way of a rest. I’m away from everyone; I’ve got no mic on.”

Ramsay, who gives young chefs the spotlight in his latest show “Junior Masterchef,” said balancing his strict diet with his career was no piece of cake.
“It’s difficult as a chef — you’ve got to taste things,” the 46-year-old told the magazine.

Chef Gordon Ramsay celebrates the 200th episode of his show ‘Hell’s Kitchn’ on October 1 in Culver City, Calif.
The one-time Scotland soccer pro said he got hooked on the idea of a triathlon when he ran right into one during a solo hike up the canyons in Malibu, Calif. He watched athletes transition from water to land, and immediately bought himself a wetsuit.
“My coach started taking me out on one-on-one sessions on the London Olympic course, and I just got really into it — there’s something quite exciting about those three disciplines,” Ramsay said. “I just needed another challenge. And Kona was the Oscars.”
The November issue of Triathlete is on stands now.
