Banksy says he sold original pieces in Central Park over the weekend — for only $ 60 each. An elderly man worked the pop-up stall at the edge of the park on Fifth Ave. near Central Park South.
Graffiti artist Banksy, whose works sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, claims he sold original pieces at starving-artist prices over the weekend in Central Park.
“Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $ 60 each,” he wrote on his website Sunday.

The elusive British artist also posted a video of the pop-up stall on the edge of the park on Fifth Ave. near Central Park South featuring about 25 canvases of his black-and-white spray art.
Some of the artwork were riffs on famous Banksy graffiti works such as a rat riding a scooter and a bandana-masked protester hurling a bouquet of flowers.

Most people strolled by without taking a second look, likely in disbelief that the famed international street artist was actually selling his work on the street.
Banksy noted that it took about four hours before an elderly man working at the stall made his first sale.

“A lady buys two small canvases for her children, but only after negotiating a 50% discount,” Banksy wrote on the video.
A New Zealand woman got the bargain of her lifetime after she unwittingly bought two signed Banksy piece for $ 120.

Banksy says it took about four hours before the elderly man working the stall made a sale.
A man from Chicago, who told the unidentified seller that he just needed “something for the walls” of his new house walked away with four paintings. He and the New Zealand woman also got hugs from the salesman.
Banksy revealed the stunt netted $ 420 on the day.

Artwork by the mysterious artist, star of the 2010 Oscar-nominated documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” — began emerge in New York earlier this month.
“New York calls to graffiti writers like a dirty old lighthouse. We all want to prove ourselves here,” Banksy wrote in an email exchange with the Village Voice.
One of his pieces was a green truck filled with squeaking teddy bears peeking out small slots was spotted driving around Brooklyn.
He also piece sprayed a vivid black-and-white depiction of war horses wearing goggles on a wall behind a chain-link fence on Ludlow St.
