The college hockey season is young, but the play of the year may have happened Friday nightduring the overtime period between No. 5 Boston College and No. 1 Minnesota.

Minnesota forward Taylor Cammarata was on a breakaway with 1:57 left in overtime when his shot richocheted off Boston College goalie Thatcher Demko’s pad and over his shoulder. The puck appeared to be heading into the net before before Eagles defenseman Ian McCoshen catches the puck in front of the net and throws it back across the ice, saving Boston College from an overtime loss.

The Minnesota crowd reacted as if the puck went in, and even after a video review the officials ruled no goal.

Boston College won in an unofficial shootout, 2-1, but because it was a non-conference game neither team earned a point and it is officially counted as a tie toward each team’s record.
