Preliminary reports said the explosion was registered at the building’s central heating system and was probably caused by a gas leak.
A natural gas explosion has killed 12 and injured 60 in Rosario, Argentina on Tuesday. The explosion trapped dozens of people in the upper floors of the building while smoke filled the sky in one of the country’s largest cities.
The immense explosion destroyed the building’s front and back facades and exposed the inferno that was burning the inside of the building, in turn also feeding the fires with air.

The initial powerful blast ripped through a ten-story building, an destroyed another next to it, in Argentina’s third largest city, Rosario.
Firefighters managed to pull people from balconies and windows but the imminent threat of a total building collapse forced law enforcement to close buildings and 11 schools to prevent further casualties and injuries.
The Litoral Gas company, which provides that section of city with its supply of natural gas, cut off the flow to the downtown area.

Firefighters said that they were able to extinguish the flames in about three hours and the building was left in a state that was in danger of collapse.
The blast that caused debris to fly in all directions damaged several shops and buildings in the surrounding area.

There are currently 12 deaths and 60 injured being reported.
Sergio Berni, Security Secretary, offered the help of the border police and the coast guard to help local authorities.
